CRYPTOMATIC
HC-500 series

CRYPTOMATIC was a family of electronic encryption/decryption devices for text-based messages, introduced between 1975 and 1995 by Crypto AG (Hagelin) in Zug (Switzerland). Some of these devices were (partly) developed by Motorola (US) and Siemens (Germany), and use a cryptographic algorithm (cryptologic) that was developed by the US National Security Agency (NSA) and inserted by the CIA. Certain versions of the algorithm contain an exploitable weakness (backdoor) [1].
