, developed in the mid-1970s by the
US
National Security Agency

NSA
) as replacement for
NESTOR
cryptographic products like the
KY-38
. Part of the
VINSON family of devices
it was used by the
US
Air Force. The KY-58 can be seen as the airborne version of the
KY-57
.
