CX-52a   S/N 33432
This is a civil variant of the CX-52 that was used by the Argentine Foreign Office. It is equipped with Standard A slidebars, which was considered the most secure set of slide bars available. Although it has a re-arrangeable print head (and letter dial), it is not fitted with the F/V feature.

CX-52c   S/N 11946
This is a military variant of the CX-52 that was used in the Netherlands. It is fitted with the externally controllable F/V feature, but is configured with one of the least secure set of slide bars. Interestingly, it came with the alternative set of six pin-wheels.

CX-52/30   S/N 11951
This is the 30-character version, which was made especially for foreign languages – like Arabic or Russian – and for customers who needed additional symbols. The machine shown here features a customised Latin alphabet with four extra symbols, a fixed print head and a fixed letter dial.

The machine below was part of a special batch of CX-52 machines that were supplied in 1963 to the French Military Police 1 via Crypto AG's distributor in Paris (France): René Presseq de Chauny. The machine was supplied with 6 additional pin-wheels and with a special set of slide bars.

  1. Direction de la Gendarmerie et de la Justice Militaire, Sous-Direction de la Gendarmerie, Bureau technique. The Gendarmerie is one of two national police forces in France. It has military as well as civil duties and is responsible for the security of the President. It is the successor to the Maréchaussée.

CX-52/RT   S/N 17961
The machine below is believed to be a standard issue CX-52/RT, also known as the RT/CX, which is the random-tape or One-Time Tape version of the machine. As it does not contain pin-wheels, the last bar in the drum is the only one that displaces the tape reader by one position. This is done by the A-cam of bar 32 in the left most position (i.e. the position of wheel 1).

CX-52/RT   S/N 33355
This CX-52/RT was used for many years by the Dutch Foreign Office for communication with its embassies around the world. It's case was originally painted grey, but was later repainted silver. It was presented to an employee as a farewell present on his retirement. This machine features an exotic collection of unique slide bars, one of which has an inverted K-cam.
