CX-52 machines in the Crypto Museum collection
This page gives an overview of the CX-52
models that are (or were) part of the Crypto Museum collection.
Note that the lower case suffixes to the model number are
secret designators
that were only known to Hagelin and the NSA.

Note that the bars shown in red cannot be fitted with lugs. They
are known as unluggable bars. More...

This is a civil variant of the CX-52 that was used by the Argentine
Foreign Office. It is equipped with Standard A slidebars, which was
considered the most secure set of slide bars available. Although it has

The machine below is believed to be a standard issue CX-52/RT, also
known as the RT/CX, which is the random-tape or
One-Time Tape version
of the machine. As it does not contain pin-wheels, the last bar in
the drum is the only one that displaces the tape reader by one
position. This is done by the A-cam of bar 32 in the left most
position (i.e. the position of wheel 1).

This CX-52/RT was used for many years by the Dutch Foreign Office for
communication with its embassies around the world. It's case was originally
painted grey, but was later repainted silver. It was presented to an employee
as a farewell present on his retirement. This machine features an exotic
collection of unique slide bars, one of which has an inverted K-cam.
