Teleprinters were electromechanical, and later electronic, devices.
As they were used extensively between the 1940s and 1990s - in the
civil as well as in the military domain – teletypewriters required
quite a bit of maintenance.
The machines could become dirty and blocked, and the thin
paper tape could easily break. This page lists some of the maintenance
tools that were available.
