TeKaDe FAG-200 →
The machine is housed in a cream or (military) green enclosure.
The latter had a 'Z' suffix to the model number, indicating that it was
TEMPEST approved by the German cipher authority BSI [1].
There are two basic versions of the machine: (1) FS-200, with 220V AC or
24V DC power supply, and extended temperature range, and (2) FS-220
with 220V AC power supply only and a limited temperature range.
Both versions are available with ADo8 (high-voltage) or V.10 (low-voltage)
interface. It has an electronic keyboard and a 7 × 9 matrix printer
that handles up to 40 cps.

Messages can be stored on punched paper tape, using the built-in tape
puncher that is located to the right of the printer. Punched tapes can be
read back, using the tape reader to the right of the keyboard.
ITA2 data traffic (baudot) can be handled at
50, 75, 100 and 200 baud, in simplex (Sx),
half-duplex (HDx) and full-duplex modes (Dx).
There are many additional features, such as Forward Error Correction (FEC)
and Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ).
It has a 89 character buffer and automatically expands the German accented
characters Ä, Ü and Ö to AE, UE and OE respectively.
Including the (optional) transit case, the unit measures
530 × 265 × 535 mm and weights 34 kg.
It is far less noisy than electromechanical predecessors like the
Siemens T-100 or T-1000.
When printing at 50 baud, it produces less than 60 dBA.
In standby, it produces no sound at all.
The machines were also sold by Philips,
where they were marketed as PACT-200 and PACT-220.

- FS200
This is the most hardened version of the machine, suitable for operation
at temperatures between -10°C and +55°C. It is available for stationary use
(220V AC) and for mobile use (24V DC). The 24V version weights 2 kg
less than the 220V version. The machine featured here, is of this type.
It has a 220V AC power supply and an ADo8 interface.
- FS220
This version of the machine is almost identical to the FS-200, but supports
a smaller temperature range (0°C to +55°C), which makes it less usable in
colder environments. This version is only suitable for stationary use, as
it is only available with a 220V AC power supply. All other specifications
are identical to those of the FS-200.
