REI was founded in 1983 by Bruce Barsumian and was one of the first companies to introduce a Non-Linear Junction Detector (NLJD) in the US. Their SuperScout NLJD was on the market for many years and was sold to many countries for finding inactive listening devices. During the 1980s they were also known for their clever TSCM tools, like the TRD-800 recorder detector. Some of these products are featured below. REI is currently (2015) owned by Bruce Barsumian and Tom Jones.
